Every day, we all depend a lot on our mobiles, and now many people are making their mobiles their only internet-connected device. So, it is very important to choose the right cell phone provider, so that you do not end up with a plan that does not suit your needs. Keeping this in mind, I have tried a lot of different packages in the last one year or more, and today we will talk about Mint Mobile, what it does, where it goes wrong, and whether it can be the right fit for you.
We know that Mint Mobile is a prepaid provider, which was established around 2016. It was under actor and businessman Ryan Reynolds. But, in 2024, T-Mobile acquired Mint Mobile. I have found that my confidence in Mint’s service has increased a lot now that it has the support and backing of a big brand. Mint has made a name for itself throughout its history for simple, convenient and reliable coverage. Mint offers a good flat rate for its services but it does not offer cheap customizable plans or free international calls like other services.
Mint may not be ideal for people who regularly make international calls or use their mobile phones on holidays. But, for those people who primarily use their phone for domestic use, Mint offers a simple service and good rates, especially when you sign up for long-term plans. And, since there are no physical stores, you can set up your Mint Mobile contract and start your services from the comfort of your home. Mint will post your SIM card to you, and when it arrives, you will activate your SIM card on the Mint Mobile app or website, input the previous SIM code, follow a few prompts, and you’ll be ready in a few minutes. It’s so easy.
Let’s know about its pricing and plans, I was glad to see that there are short-term options available, so that I donโt have to be locked into a single plan for the whole year. Mint Teen offers four different service plans with different contract terms: 3, 6, or 12 months. In each of their plans, you get unlimited calls and texts.
What is different is the amount of mobile data available. The first plan is their 5 GB plan. You can sign up for either a 6 month or a 12 month contract with this plan, where the 6 month plan costs $20 per month and the 12 month plan offers a 25% discount which comes to $15 per month. Since I don’t use a lot of data, I opted for the 5 GB plan on the 12-month contract to get a good deal. I would recommend everyone to consider a longer plan if you are looking for Mint as it always helps you save money.
After that is their 15 GB plan, which as is clear from the name itself, gives you 15 GB data every month and its price is $20 per month on a 12-month plan. This is just $5 more than their 5 GB plan but you get 3x more data, which is perfect for more people for social media and light streaming. After that is the 20 GB plan, which costs $25 per month and is available on a one year contract, but there is no major change in the data allowance in this tier.
Also there is Mint Mobile’s unlimited plan, which obviously gives you unlimited data for $25 per month. This plan is perfect for people who don’t use broadband at home and do everything on their mobile data. If you are a heavy streamer or use Netflix or other platforms a lot, I would recommend choosing the unlimited plan, especially as it is only slightly more expensive than the 20GB plan.
The unlimited plan used to have a strict cap of 40GB at a time, where if you crossed that limit, your speed would slow down for the rest of the month. This is no longer the case. You will get unlimited high-speed data without throttling, which is a big improvement. But, if you use more than 35 GB, your speed can slow down during peak times, especially when the area is crowded, but this is not guaranteed. If this happens, when the congestion subsides, your speed becomes normal. So it is important to keep this in mind, but for most people this will not be a big problem.
